Serving the people of Bradford, Harrogate, Selby and Craven Districts

Being responsible for a child with additional needs is often quite isolating. You may feel other parents don’t or can’t understand what it’s like. Getting to know other parent carers, learning from and supporting each other can have a huge impact on your wellbeing.

Join our Facebook groups to meet other parent carers and keep informed about our online get-togethers as well as important news about local services.

We hold events and regular groups especially for parent carers, including a You Are Not Alone group for parents whose children display behaviours that are challenging. You can also join in any of the groups for all kinds of carers that you might be interested in. See the calendar below for details.

Power of Attorney Share and Learn

Wednesday, 19 November 2025

Time

10:45 AM - 12:15 PM

Description

Carers UK will be hosting a session led by Priya on Power of Attorney (POA). It will guide you through the key considerations in a practical and supportive way. Together, we will explore what a Power of Attorney is, when you might need to set one up, and how to approach conversations about it with your family.

We’ll also look at the different types of POA, what responsibilities each involves, and how the application process works. The session will cover what happens if a POA is not in place, explain the concept of mental capacity, and outline what steps you can take if difficulties arise with your appointed attorney.

There will be time for questions, so if you have specific question you would like to ask, please email us at digital.products@carersuk.org so we can ensure your questions are answered. You will have the opportunity to ask more questions during the session.

Join AbilityNet on Carers Rights Day 2025, Thursday 20 November at 1pm, for a free webinar, exploring how digital tools, apps, and even artificial intelligence (AI) can help lighten the load and boost your confidence in your caring role.

Being an unpaid carer can be incredibly demanding, with many responsibilities and limited time to manage them all. But you’re not alone — and digital technology can offer real support.

As part of their partnership with BT Group to improve digital skills for older people and disabled adults, this session will highlight:

- Free digital tools to make everyday tasks easier

- Simple tech tips every carer should know

- Apps and adjustments to help you feel more in control

- How AI-powered tools can support carers—from smart assistants to health tracking

- Other ideas and advice for using tech to support your caring journey

Whether you're new to digital tools or curious about how AI might help, this session is designed to empower you with practical, accessible information.

Everyone who registers will receive a recording after the event - so sign up even if you can’t attend live.

Come along and discover how digital and AI tools can help you go from overwhelmed to empowered.
