Support continues for young carers

Young carers have made an NHS craft activity using eggs and loo roll tubes

We are still able to support young carers throughout the coronavirus outbreak.

We are calling all the families of young carers who we usually see one-to-one and those who come to our youth clubs. We are using Facebook and our website to make sure carers have links, especially to mental health support.

Young carers can have lots of different responsibilities such as chores, looking after younger siblings, providing personal care and giving emotional support. The support for these young people has moved to online and telephone.

Our young carer workers are also suggesting fun activities and challenges for young carers such as decorating an egg or potato and sending in the photo as a competition. Other plans include a virtual fancy dress contest and a photo montage of young carers with “thank you” signs for NHS and other key workers.

A young carer is anyone under the age of 18 who looks after a parent or sibling who has a physical or mental illness, misuses drugs or alcohol, or has a disability.
