Our new base in Selby is open!

Carers’ Resource has opened a new base to provide support for unpaid carers of all ages across the Selby district.

The charity held a launch event at Selby Community House, in Portholme Road, on Friday July 1.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Tadcaster, Councillor David Bowgett, North Yorkshire County Councillors Karl Arthur, Mike Jordan and John Cattanach, and Tom Jenkinson, North Yorkshire County Council’s Stronger Communities Delivery Manager (Selby and district).

Representatives from North Yorkshire’s Social Care and Living Well teams, Time to Care Services, Selby District Vision, Dementia Forward, local schools and medical practices also attended.

Carers’ Resource has been supporting carers across Harrogate, Bradford and Craven districts for many years, providing emotional and practical help to anyone who is looking after a family member or friend with a disability, mental or physical illness, addiction or frailty.

Julie Duerden, Head of Operations for North Yorkshire at Carers’ Resource, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who came to the opening of our new Selby office in Community House.

“It’s a great new base for unpaid carers in the Selby district and we’re looking forward to supporting adults and young people who are looking after a relative or friend.

“Unpaid carers have a tough job – they are under a lot of pressure with little chance to relax. Our services are free, confidential, and non-judgmental; we’re here to listen to carers about what they need.

“We provide one-to-one information, advice and support, as well as opportunities to meet other carers at our groups. We can support with carers’ finances, benefits and grants, and help you plan for the future.

“If you are a carer in the Selby district, please do get in touch with us and find out about the support we can offer you.”

Earlier this year Carers’ Resource was awarded a contract by North Yorkshire County Council to provide services for carers in Harrogate, Craven and Selby. The contract runs for the next three years, with an option to extend it further.
