Older carers on the rise and ‘risking health’

Last changed: Wednesday 10 August, 2016

The number of older carers in England is rising and the pressures of looking after a loved one is damaging their health, new research suggests.

Age UK and Carers UK have released new figures which show there were 1.2m carers over 65 – a 25% rise in the past ten years.

The findings have been published in the media and reveal the biggest increase was among the over 85s. More men have also been identified as carers in the recent survey.

The charities are now calling for more support for older carers.
