Carers’ Resource awarded new contracts to provide services for unpaid carers and vulnerable people

Carers’ Resource has been awarded a contract by North Yorkshire County Council to provide services for unpaid carers in Harrogate, Craven and Selby, for at least the next three years.

Young and adult carers across the three districts will receive support from the charity under the new contract, which will start from July 1st, 2022.

Carers’ Resource currently delivers support across Harrogate and Craven, but will be delivering a full range of services in the Selby area for the first time in its history.

Carers’ Resource will continue to support carers in the Bradford district, under a separate contract with Bradford Council, as well as running a wide range of additionally funded projects across the districts.

The charity has also been awarded the contract to continue delivering Home from Hospital Support in North Yorkshire, for the next five years, starting on April 1st, 2022.

The Home from Hospital team provides a free service for people aged 18 and over who are being discharged from hospital and need extra support.

Chris Whiley, CEO of Carers’ Resource, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded these contracts. Our staff have worked above and beyond the call of duty during the pandemic and this is a testament to the quality of services we have continued to deliver.

“We are excited to be able to expand our services into the Selby district, and to extend the support we can offer to young carers across the patch.

“We know there are many people out there who need our support and we are determined to reach out to more carers, and help make a positive difference to their lives.”

The charity provides a wide range of services for unpaid carers including one-to-one support, information, support groups, employment and training advice, planning for emergencies, and wellbeing.

A carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a friend, neighbour or relative who could not manage otherwise because of frailty, illness, addiction or disability.

Richard Webb, North Yorkshire County Council Director of Health and Adult Services said: “We would like to thank Carers’ Resource for the very pro-active work they do to support carers in our communities and we are delighted that they will be expanding their services to include Selby, as well as Craven and Harrogate.

“One in twelve of us is a carer for a loved one and the support, advice and help that carers’ organisations provide, both in times of crisis and on an ongoing basis, is invaluable.”
