Carers Week: 11-17 June

What is Carers Week?

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

This year’s Carers Week theme is ‘Healthy and Connected’. Communities which support carers to look after their loved ones well, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own.

Carers Week is brought to life by the individuals and organisations who come together to organise activities and events throughout the UK, drawing attention to just how important caring is.

What are Carers’ Resource doing for Carers Week?

As usual we have a number of events running during Carers Week on top of our usual events, including drop-ins and talks, as well as having information stands at various events throughout the areas where we work.

The Difference we Make: Showcasing the work of Carers’ Resource

This year we are holding an event at the Norcroft Conference Centre at the University of Bradford to celebrate our work with carers over the past year. Carers and professionals who work with them are all welcome to attend. Limited car parking is available – please register using this Eventbrite link so we can keep a track of numbers and parking requirements.

The current running order is:

  • 12-12:30pm – refreshments, stalls, BYO lunch, sign-up
  • 12:30-12:50pm – University of Bradford representative to talk about the uni/carers, research/students’ work around carers or carer-related issues, Q&A
  • 12:50-12:55pm – ‘A day in the life of a carer’ video
  • 12:55-1:15pm– Chris Whiley, CEO Carers’ Resource, launches impact report and fields any questions
  • 1:15-2pm – discussions on tables about key questions Carers’ Resource asks itself, and feedback
  • 2–2:10pm – Bev Maybury, strategic director health and wellbeing at Bradford council, has been invited to make the closing speech, reflecting on the needs of carers
  • 2:10-2:30pm – networking, refreshments and stalls

To tie in with Time Out for Tea there’ll be cakes available for small donations – or host your own event during Carers Week: visit the Time Out for tea page for full details and to download a pack.
