Before her retirement, Julia was a solicitor and partner at Gordon’s LLP, specialising in corporate and employment law. Amongst other things, she is currently Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire, a trustee of the York Minster Fund and of the Fred Towler Trust, a member of the Steering Commitee for Bradford arm of Leeds Community Foundation, a governor of Bingley Grammar School and President of Airedale Agricultural Society. Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Julia ran her own business and then worked in the Civil Service in the county and crown courts and studied for a degree whilst working. Julia is married and lives in Ilkley. Julia helps care for her parents, who are both in their nineties: her father is now living in a care home, while her mother continues to live at home with help from carers. Julia enjoys walking, keeping fit, gardening, interior design and reading.
