We rely on volunteers to host and support many of our activities. A friendly host who puts carers at their ease and makes each person attending feel welcome and included is vital to a successful group or event as are other support volunteers to ensure smooth running.

Events, groups and activities for carers and others are an important part of the service that Carers’ Resource delivers. There are coffee mornings, lunches and activity groups that give carers the chance to relax and socialise; workshops and courses that help carers develop new or existing skills or provide them with information that can help them in their caring role; and numerous other events to highlight and promote carers and their importance.

Caring Caller (Telephone)

The Caring Callers service relies entirely on volunteers. As a Caring Caller you will be in regular telephone contact with a number of carers giving them someone to talk to and being a friendly voice on the other end of the line.

Being a carer can be an isolating and lonely experience. Even if you have support from family and friends it can be difficult to truly open up about the pressures that caring for someone can make you feel. It can be very helpful to have someone totally separate from your life to talk to – whether about your caring itself or just to have a break and a chat. The Caring Callers service from Carers’ Resource provides carers with that friendly listening ear that can really help get you through a tough time.

Skills needed:

  • Good listener
  • Empathy
  • Committment
