Staff

The staff of the Carers’ Resource combine a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience with a dedication to the wellbeing of the carers they support. The teams are split across the three main sites in Harrogate, Skipton and Bradford and are led by the senior management team. The senior management team comprises:

Chris Whiley – Chief Executive Officer

Chris Whiley, Carers' Resource Director

Christine Whiley is the Chief executive Officer of the Carers Resource, a post she took up in October 2015. Prior to that she was CEO for a children and young people’s emotional health and wellbeing charity in Cheshire. She started her working life as a youth and community worker operating in both the voluntary and statutory sectors in a wide variety of roles. working in partnership with an extensive range of agencies.

In 2002 she became Head of Youth Service in Bradford, subsequently becoming an Assistant Director with responsibility for prevention and early intervention services for 0 – 19 year olds and leading on multi agency responses to parental support, voice and influence work and anti bullying initiatives. She was also an active member of the local children’s safeguarding boards in both Bradford and Cheshire.

Alison Straw – Head of Operations

Alison Straw

Alison Straw is the Head of Operations. She has been with the organisation for five years, leading Service Managers to deliver for carers and in line with contracts. She currently line manages the Young Carer, Family and Employment teams.

She is the Lead Employer Member for Investors in People, the Lead practitioner on quality systems including Investors in People, Matrix, Investing in Volunteers and also manages processes about policy development. Alison is a Human Resource expert within the organisation, with expert knowledge in areas including recruitment, selection and disciplinary processes.

Heather Smith – Executive Officer

Heather Smith

Heather Smith is Executive Officer. In addition to supporting The Director and Head of Operations she is responsible for all matters relating to Administration and Facilities and also attends regular Health and Safety training forums run by the Harrogate Health and Safety Forum.

Her areas of responsibility include managing thirteen admin staff in four locations, health and safety and first aid in the workplace, insurance, rent negotiations, building issues/works, utilities contracts, upkeep of the buildings and implementing and updating admin policies and procedures.

NVQ level four in Health and Social Care, Fire Marshall Training, Foundation Certificate of Health and Safety in the workplace, qualified First Aider

Jan Burrows – Head of Carer Services

Jan Burrows

Jan Burrows is the Head of Carer Services, originally joining the Carers’ Resource in 2013 as an Information Officer. Prior to this, she worked in Local Authority statutory services for eight years as practitioner social worker and for 25 years as operational manager (team leader, Principal Care manager in Airedale and district wide service manager for older people).

With experience in child care, physical and learning disability and older people, Jan has skills in mental health, mental capacity, assessment, identification of need, support planning, risk management and safeguarding.

Registered social worker, Certificate in Management.

Sam Dawson – Head of Care Provision

Sam Dawson

Sam Dawson is the Head of Care Provision and joined the Carers’ Resource in 2013 in line with Crossroads Care merging with Carers’ Resource. Prior to joining, Sam worked in Local Authority statutory services for 16 years, providing management support across a diverse team.

Sam has experience with performance management, embedding and supporting new ways of working, re-ablement, delayed discharges and working with health and community teams. Sam has skills in assessments, care planning, safeguarding, dementia and risk management, team building and budget management.

BA (Hons) Business Management, Certificate in Management, Diploma in Management, NVQ in Care.

Stuart Hall – Head of Finance and Business Support

Stuart Hall is the Head of Finance and Business Support joining the organisation in February 2016. Stuart is responsible for all the financial aspects of the charity including the monitoring and evaluation of our activities.
