Oak Tree
Project
North Yorkshire is one of 19 Local Authorities chosen
by the government to try out new services to help older people
stay living safely at home.
North Yorkshire Partnerships for Older People Projects (POPP)
provides support for people aged over 65 who are experiencing
changing times in their lives. With funding from North Yorkshire
County Council, the Carers’ Resource is able to offer peer
mentoring for these people - The Oak Tree Project.
 |
By using volunteer peer mentors, vulnerable older people
are encouraged to engage in activities they enjoy, but haven’t
had the confidence to do so for some time. The individually
tailored programme with clear aims helps the vulnerable person
move towards independence and a healthier lifestyle through
building confidence and reducing isolation. If you know someone
over the age of 65 who is considered vulnerable and isolated,
a referral to The Oak Tree Project could make a difference.
Volunteer peer mentors are over 60 with an interest in encouraging
and supporting others. Although most of the skills needed
are those used daily, our volunteers are given full training
and support throughout their mentoring role. Volunteers offer
as much time as they’d like and we aim to match them
with someone with similar interests.

mentor, or referring someone to The Oak Tree Project, please
