Caring with Confidence is a programme aimed at boosting carers self esteem and confidence. It offers a series of non-sequential, ‘stand alone’ group sessions so carers can attend as many as they wish, whenever and wherever best fits in with their caring situation. However, a lot of carers choose to attend and complete all seven sessions as they build frienships with others along the way.

The seven, different three-hour sessions available cover topics from health and wellbeing, stress and time management to communication skills, moving and handling, managing medication and the financial and legal aspects of caring for someone.

The sessions are designed to focus on carers’ existing strengths and skills, giving them some simple tools and techniques such as relaxation exercises or negotiation skills to make life easier for them where possible.

The sessions are being offered by The Carers Resource and are open to anyone aged over 18 who provides any amount of care for a family member, relative, friend or neighbour. It is completely free to attend the sessions and feedback from participants has been very positive. Tash Braithwaite, a 19 year old carer who is taking part in the group sessions said; "I am learning more skills, finding more confidence in myself and enjoying talking to others in similar situations, ...the session on caring and coping showed me new techniques for dealing with stress and getting my thoughts together.”

You can do all or just one or two sessions as you choose and fits in with other commitments. However, once they get into the swing of things, many carers choose to carry on and complete the sessions. Have a look for yourself:
